Camila Vicens Wins 10 National Championships in 3 Years

8/3/2014

Picture
Camila Vicens is a special talent that found her niche in track and field and surged to the top of the 1500 meter race walk event nationally winning almost every time she stepped on the track. Her résumé includes 10 national championships, 2 silver medals and 3 national records. In addition, she earned gold as part of the 4x800 meters relay team in 2014.

In her first year of track, Camila's site coach Marcus Davis suggested she try the race walk event and with some training for that event, she quickly learned all the techniques. During that summer of competition, Camila won 3 national gold medals. With that success it was apparent that the race walk would be her event in youth track and field. In addition to the race walk, Camila has excelled in the 3000m run winning first at the USATF Youth Outdoor and winning silver at the AAU Club Championships in 2014.

The 2014 year is the last year Camila will be able to perform in the 1500m race walk since next year she will move up to the 13-14 girls division which includes the 3000m race walk. Although this event will be new to her for youth track and field competition, she has already been attending race walk camps to prepare for it. She had an outstanding 3 year career and we look forward to seeing the success with her new challenges.

The 15-16 Boys Divisions Deep with Talent

7/29/2014

Picture
At a national meet it is difficult for any club to have one relay team to qualify for the finals. At the 2014 USATF National Junior Olympic, the Track Houston 15-16 boys talent pool was so deep that they had three 4x400 meters relay teams to medal in the finals out of 34 teams. Only the top 8 teams earned medals. The division headed by coach Daryl Sanford, gives the credit to his boys for working hard and being dedicated.

In additional, the Track Houston 15-16 boys division claimed 3 national championships and 29 total medals at the USATF Junior Olympic. Their first championship can as a result of winning the 4x800m relay with the team of Cameron White, Oscar DeLeon, Randall Jubilee and Robert Lewis. This is the second straight year this division has won this event. Their second 4x800m relay team of Dominique Lang, Kenneth Lange, Tyrell Valentine and Brenden Lemon won the bronze medal. Track Houston had the only 2 teams from Houston to medal in the 15-16 boys 4x800m relay.

Also in the 15-16 boys division, Shamon Ehiemua won gold in the 100m dash in a time of 10.90 and silver in the 200m in a time of 21.58. Isaiah Lucas collected his gold in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.31.

The club participated in the AAU National Club Championships in Orlando, FL where the 15-16 boys won their division championship and contributed 84 points to Track Houston's National Club Championship award. The boys won 4 first place awards and 37 total medals. The first place awards included the 4x100m (Shamon Ehiemua, Joshua Oglesby, Dominic Lang, Cameron Ehle), 4x800m (Cameron White, Randall Jubilee, Oscar Deleon, Robert Lewis), 100m (Shamon Ehiemua) and High Jump (Caleb Parker).

8 Championships Captured in National Junior Olympics

8/14/2013

Picture
Winning eight National Junior Olympic Championships in one year would be difficult for most track clubs to accomplish but Track Houston has won 8 or more championships for the fourth consecutive year. This year 7 of those championships were won including one new record at the USATF National Junior Olympic in Greensboro, NC. Another national championship was won at the AAU Junior Olympic Games in Ypsilanti, MI including a new record. This year Track Houston athletes brought home 109 medals from the USATF Junior Olympic.

The 9-10 Girls made their mark not only by winning the 4x400m relay but they also broke the record. The team of Dynasty McClennon, Jalen Elrod, Daja Maxey and Maryah Hampton's new record was 2 seconds faster than the previous one. Dynasty also won silver in the 200m and the 400m. Jalen won the bronze in the 400m and Maryah captured the 8th place medal in that event also.

Adaora Nwokeji won the 9-10 Girls long jump with a distance of 13’-9.50”. Although her goal was to break the record, being a national champion is still a great reason to celebrate.

Another field event win for the 9-10 Girls came when Arianna Stegall threw the shot put for a distance of 31 feet. After winning the bronze last year Arianna wanted to make sure this year it would be gold.

In her second year of participating in track and field, Camila Vicens increased her Junior Olympic gold medal count to 3 in the 1500m race walk. In the 2013 AAU Junior Olympic, Camila set a new national record in the 11 Girls division 1500m race walk with a time of 7:17.80. She also earned a 5th place medal in the 3000m race. At the USATF Junior Olympic Camila won the silver medal in the 1500m race medal.
Lucas Bourgoyne of the 11-12 boys won gold in the 3000m race at USATF Junior Olympic and was part of the 4x800m team that won the bronze medal. In the AAU Junior Olympic, Lucas won the 3000m and took silver in the 800m and 1500m races.

Congratulations to the 13-14 Boys 4x800 relay team of Matthew Abrahams, Deonte Bradford, Randall Jubilee and Tyler Litton for winning gold at the USATF Junior Olympic. This is the second straight year this division has won this event.

The 15-16 Boys 4x800 relay team also won gold at the USATF Junior Olympic with the team of Kendall Brown, Cameron White, Robert Lewis, Oscar DeLeon. An interesting note is that 3 of these athletes return to this division next year.

2013 Summer Heats Up with New Records

6/28/2013

Picture
Well it looks like Track Houston athletes are picking up where they left off in 2012, setting new records. At the 2013 USATF Gulf Championships the 11-12 boys 4x800 meter relay team of Joshua Brooks, Ian Gilmore, Lucas Bourgoyne and Phillip Green broke the meet record in a time of 9:32.67. This record was reclaimed by Track Houston after a 2 year absent and hopes are that it will remain in the home of Track Houston for the foreseeable future. Adding to the 11-12 boys record count, Lucas Bourgoyne set a new record in the 3000 meters with a time of 10:22.72 beating the old record by almost 30 seconds.  On the last day of competition Lucas emerged with yet another record. In the 1500 meter race, he finished with the time of 4:43.46.
Picture
In an effort to not be out-done, the 13-14 boys 4x800 meter relay team claimed their own new record. The team of Deonte Bradford, Matthew Abrams, Randall Jubilee and Tyler Litton set a new Gulf association record with a time of 8:35.00. The previous record of 8:43.20 was owned by Track Houston for over 12 years and boast records in all three relay; 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 meter relay.
Last year was Camila Vicens first time participating in track and field and she ended the season winning 3 national medals and setting the USATF Gulf and Region 12 records in the 9-10 girls 1500 meter race walk. This year she moved up to the 11-12 girls division and has already set a national record. WOW! At the 2013 AAU Gulf District meet in Houston, she established a new national record in the 1500 meter race walk with a time of 7:39.39 in the 11-girls division. With 4 major meets left, it should be very interesting to see if Camila can add 4 more records to the 3 she already has.

Congratulations to Arianna Stegall with her new record in the 9-10 girls shot put. At the USATF Gulf Championships, she threw a record breaking distance of 29’-2.5”. After winning the bronze medal at last year’s Junior Olympic, Arianna is poise this year to win gold.

Camille Napier of the 9-10 girls set a new USATF Gulf Association record in the 1500 meter run with a time of 5:27.08
